"DUM SPIRO SPERO"

While I breath I hope

It is now 100 years since my Grandfather set up our Practice in 1921. We have seen many changes along a twisty road, some good and some not so good. The War years must have been the worst; recessions have come and gone and now this pandemic which will have its toll on our Economy as deep as any World War. And yet we are still here. My Grandfather had a great resolve and a great legacy, never ever give up - Dum Spiro Spero.

We are a Chartered Practice founded in Liverpool and working across the North West. We have a flair for development and an understanding of people and process. We aim to create what did not exist before; creating opportunities through understanding, friendship and solutions.

OUR STATEMENT
"Understand the problem and you will know the solution."

In recent years, the Practice has been involved with a number of mixed use developments, directly promoting and developing initiatives, initially through joint ventures and more recently on its own. The future of the Practice is seen fostering a relationship between Development and Architecture creating solutions for Clients through innovative design and creativity.

OUR TEAM:

DARREN BRITTLES
| Partnering Director | Architect

Although Darren only joined us a few years ago in 2018 I have known him for a few years longer. It now feels like all my life. He brings a fresh approach to the future of the Practice and new directions and is responsible for the main Architectural workflow and the day-to-day running of the Practice. He has over 20 years’ experience in dealing with people like me and has his own expertise in Health Care and Animal Welfare.

PAUL MCMULLEN
| Architectural Technologist

I am fortunate enough to have known Paul for many years and to have him at our side when it comes to putting our buildings together. Although Paul works freelance, he has been with me at LAGP for the past 15 years and brings with him over 40 years’ experience at the coal face of Construction. What he doesn’t know about construction you won’t need to know either.

AMY CASSIDY
| Architect

Amy joined the practice in 2016 working part time while she was putting herself through her Masters degree at Liverpool John Moores University. We are extremely proud to be able to say the last year she passed her Professional Practice exams and joins us now as a fully qualified Architect. She brings with her a passion for Interior and Graphic Design and of course 21st century technology with phrases like BIM and CGI, something of which I really don’t know anything about.

DEBBIE HOWARTH
| Practice Manager

Every practice needs its backbone, it’s silent army who, without recognition brings structure and format, something you can rely on. That’s Debbie. She joined at the end of the 2008 recession, one might say the worst possible time but actually it was the best as we pulled together and forged a lasting friendship to build on. Anyone who says that was an easy period must know something I don’t know; life is not easy. Debbie is responsible for holding us all together so we can do our jobs.

JONATHON PRICHARD
| Partnering Director | Architect

And so back to me. I am nobody without the team we have built around us, this includes those Consultants with whom we work on a day to day basis, they bring their expertise, their experience and their knowledge to a world that demands that we know everything there is to know about everything. Above all they also bring their friendship. I qualified in 1982 under Ken Martin at the Liverpool Poly and have spent all my life on the building site, both physically and now supporting others. Over the years I have relied upon the combined friendship of others far more than I realise, particularly now I suppose as we take on our own Development projects, Kings Dock Mill, Argyle Court, and in more recent times in the Care Sector, always feeding the practice. In my experience it’s always about people.
